Retirement Gift: An Original Idea

A colleague is retiring. And the same question comes up every time: what retirement gift should you give them?
The engraved watch, the pen, the gift card... we've seen them all before. They are fine gifts. But let's be honest: six months later, nobody remembers them.
A work of art is something else entirely. When you give a limited edition photograph, numbered and signed by the artist, you are giving something unique. The person who receives it knows that only ten prints like it exist. That changes everything.
Why does it work for a retirement?
It's personal, first of all. You choose an image that speaks to the person: a Laurentian landscape for a nature lover, a Montreal scene for someone who worked there their whole life, a soothing seascape for their future quiet moments.

It's a gift that lasts, too. Retirement is a new life beginning. A work hanging on the wall is looked at every day. It is a daily reminder of their colleagues and their working years. Much better than an object tucked away at the bottom of a drawer.
And it's perfect for a group collection. When the whole office contributes, the budget allows for a beautiful piece, a large format for example. Everyone puts in what they want, and the result looks great.
How to choose? Think about the person: what do they like? Nature, the city, the sea? Also think about their interior: a bright, colourful piece for a living room, something softer for a bedroom.
Small budget? Framable artistic greeting cards do the trick: a beautiful image, a handwritten note from each person, and it becomes a touching gift.
Each photograph is in a limited edition of 10 prints per size, numbered and signed, accompanied by a certificate of authenticity.
That is what makes it a unique gift. On request, I can also take care of the framing (additional cost) - and the gift arrives ready to hang.
A practical tip: order in advance. Prints are produced on demand, so allow a few weeks before the big retirement day.
