Contemplative Photography

My interpretation of contemplative photography is an open and spontaneous way of seeing the world. This simple visual narrative of reality allows me to capture 'the' moment and see it with my heart. Detaching from everything else, and connecting with my visual perception in terms of colour, texture, pattern and light is, for me, a form of visual meditation.

In my opinion, contemplative photography allows us to set aside rules and techniques, to escape for a few moments by connecting with what we feel here, now.

To contemplate is also to accept what passes: leaves come loose, drift on the water, and the gaze learns to let them go.

And sometimes, contemplation takes the form of an invitation: a dock reaching out onto calm water, a horizon gently fading away, and silence doing the rest.

Contemplative photography does not chase the spectacular. It waits for the moment when the gaze finally settles — and it keeps it.
